Getting Into & Out of Bed

When getting into bed, get in on the side that is most painful. That means if the pain is greater on your left side, stand with your left side next to the bed as you face the foot of the bed (i.e., your back to the pillows). If your right side is more painful, get in on the other side so your right side will be next to the bed when your back is to the pillows.
Turn so your back is against the edge of the bed and sit down; then, without turning or twisting your body, lower your head and trunk onto the bed. Turn onto your side and bring your legs up onto the bed. While keeping your knees bent, roll onto your back.
To get out of bed, turn onto your side, draw up both knees, and swing your legs over the side of the bed. Use your hands to push yourself into the sitting position; then use your leg muscles and arms to rise as if you were sitting in a chair. Do not bend forward at the waist.
