Neck Surgery

There are several surgical procedures available to treat disorders of the cervical spine. If you are in otherwise good health, you may be a candidate for neck surgery if:
  • Conservative therapy is not helping.
  • You experience neurological (nerve) problems that involve your arms or legs.
  • You have difficulty walking or maintaining your balance.
As with back surgery, the most common operations for neck pain involve the removal of part or all of a disc (discectomy), the permanent joining of two vertebrae (fusion), or removal of part of a vertebra (laminectomy).
